Testing Testing 123!!!!!
Today I interviewed five people who are all unemployed at the moment. These are my findings:
Michele: She is a court stenographer and is currently unemployed because of the pandemic. She is outside the boundary because she will start up work next week once New York opens. She feels that she would've benefited from my idea if she was not returning to work.
Lucy: She is currently unemployed and falls inside the boundary. She was previously employed at a developmental preschool and would be working if it weren't for the pandemic however, the preschool is not opening until the next school year. Therefore, she falls inside the boundary and would benefit from our service! She said she is desperately looking for work to support her family, not buy material goods or use the money for vacation.
Michael: He currently is unemployed due to the pandemic. He is a salesman and he cannot sell to any of his stores because they are either closed or have been destroyed during the riots following George Floyd's death. He falls into both categories because he will be employed once the pandemic is over but now that the riots have destroyed a lot of where his income comes from, he is also inside the boundary and could benefit from the extra work our service could provide.
Sarah: She is a college student and was supposed to have a paid internship at Steve Madden this summer but it was cancelled due to coronavirus. Now she is looking for any type of work to strengthen her resume. She would fall inside the boundary because she is looking for work but the type of work offered would not benefit her resume.
Amy: She is currently unemployed but didn't have a job before. She is in high school and is looking to make some money this summer to support her family since her dad got laid off. She is inside the boundary because she is looking for work, she doesn't have alternative work, and she really needs money right now to support her family.
The answers to the questions proposed are as follows after interviewing five people:
Who: Are there certain people or certain businesses that, although they share a lot in common with the others in your opportunity, nevertheless fall outside the boundary? Why?
-There are many people who are unemployed right now due to the pandemic, but will go back to their previous job once it is safe again. These people do not adhere to my service because once the pandemic is over, they will be employed. However, there are many people who lost their jobs and will not get them back who can benefit from my business model.
What: At what point does the need you identified differ from another need? (Is thirst the same as hunger? Or is the desire to appear fashionable the same as the desire to be loved by others?)
- The need for employment is equal to that of hunger because without employment you will go hungry! The need that my service fulfills is a necessary one that people need to survive. This need is directly related to any other need because without income you cannot buy food or material items.
Why: Is the underlying cause of the outsiders' need different than people who are inside the boundary?
- The underlying cause is the pandemic. Usually at any time, being unemployed meant you had no job. Now, it could mean you are just temporarily employed and then your need is to find temporary work or you are fine waiting until your industry is back up and running again.
| Inside the boundary | Outside the boundary |
| Who is In- the unemployed | Who is Not- people who will return to old jobs |
| What the Need Is- JOBS to improve economy | What the Need Is Not- skilled jobs (unskilled labor only) |
Why the Need Exists- the pandemic caused people to lose their jobs. | Alternative Explanations- These jobs will not lead to future work but will help gain experience and money! |
